31 Days of Horror Day 24: A Nightmare on Elm Street

Nightmare on Elm Street - Poster

Lace your boots up, kiddies.  We’re getting down to it.  We’re only a week away from Halloween.  Time to get serious.

Nightmare on Elm Street - Nancy in Bed

While Freddy gained more personality as the series went on (New Nightmare being the obvious exception), this first film still has the ability to creep me out.  Freddy isn’t a one-man quip-machine: he’s a vicious child-murderer, hellbent on getting his revenge.  There are no jokes about soul food, and there is no sign of a roach motel.  However, there is a man gleefully chopping off his own fingers and turning handsome teenagers into geysers of blood.

Nightmare on Elm Street - Freddy

It features one of the all-time great final girls and introduces the world to one of the most iconic characters in the history of horror.  Let’s all gather around the TV and revisit this classic.
You know what?  It’s Friday.  Let’s watch as many in this series as we can.  If nothing else, I’ll be watching this and New Nightmare.  (Oh man, you guys, I love New Nightmare so much.)
